At the age of 18 I went straight from school into employment as a Conveyancing Clerk in a local solicitors office, where attention to detail was imperative! It was quite high pressure work as this was during the housing boom of the early 2000’s but I missed the face-to-face relationship of working with people so I moved on to a local Estate Agent who was also held a building society Agency. Here I developed an interest in the financial work of the building society and moved to work in an international Bank.

I enjoyed great job satisfaction in my work for a number of years, but having 3 young children I made the decision to reduce my hours, working part-time to ensure I had a good work-life balance, with a focus on my young family.

Almost ten years on, I am still with the Bank working part-time, during this time I have learned a lot about personal finances, loans and debt risks and the many challenges in juggling personal finances.

I would like to share what I have learned to help steer young people through the minefield of banking that can lead to running up debts and costing a lot of money in fees, potentially ruining their credit rating.
